UK: CONFLICT OVER FUTURE OF UNITED ASSURANCE

Article Abstract:

The future of United Assurance as an independent entity has caused a board-room rift. Alan Frost, the chief executive, believes that the insurance company can retain its independence and wants time to prove it can be turned round, whereas the chairman Andrew Longhurst is pushing for a GB[pound] 3bn deal with its competitor Britannic. It appears that no concrete progress will be made until after United has released its preliminary results early next year, when Britannic is expected to make a takeover approach.
